INSTRUCTIONS |
This is an experimental mini mash tun recipe. I just made a 2 gallon mini version of my 10 gallon Igloo mash tun for testing recipes, and I'm dying to use it LOL. I may need to change my efficiency if this works. If you're doing BIAB, just follow your regular procedure.
Heat 1 gallon of strike water to 170°F (it is always easier to cool a mash down than to heat it up). Add grain and stir to eliminate dough-balls. Check temp. Mash @ 152°F for an hour. If your temp is high, stir with the lid off. The temp will drop. 150°F - 154°F is acceptable. Vorlauf until clear and drain the first runnings into your pot. Add 1.25 gallons of 175°F sparge water, stir and sparge for 20-30 minutes @ 165°F. Vorlauf until clear and add to kettle. You may need more sparge more water due to grain absorption. Rinse, vorlauf and drain as needed to get to boil volume. Adjust boil volume as needed for your boil off rate to obtain 1.1 gallons target fermentor volume. Boil for an hour following the hop schedule - note - the hop amounts are 5 GRAMS @ 60 min and 5 GRAMS @ 15 min. Cool to pitching temperature and have at it! :-D Good luck!
